Alaska Tax Changes - January 2025
Alaska Cigarette, Alcohol & Miscellaneous Taxes—Alaska issues 2025 developing fisheries list.
The Alaska Department of Revenue has released its list of developing fisheries for 2025 purposes of the fisheries business tax. The list is effective January 1, 2025, through December 31, 2025. Developing commercial fisheries are designated by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and are taxed at a lower rate than established commercial fisheries. The list provides fish and shellfish species considered to be developing commercial fisheries, and only those species in the locations and gear types indicated qualify for the lower tax. If a lower tax rate is claimed on a species or a location that is not included on the list, the tax will be adjusted to reflect the higher rate. To claim a lower tax rate for a developing species, a taxpayer must indicate on the applicable tax schedule the area in which the resource was harvested. In 2025, additions to the list include Pacific Saury, and the separation of Sea Urchins into two categories, Red and Green. Also included is a list of developing fisheries that was effective January 1, 2024, through December 31, 2024. (Alaska Fisheries Business Tax Developing Commercial Fisheries List, Alaska Dept.
