The North Carolina Department of Revenue has expanded the list of counties eligible for Hurricane Helene interest relief.

The list now includes 12 additional counties: Cabarrus, Cherokee, Forsyth, Graham, Iredell, Lee, Nash, Rowan, Stanly, Surry, Union, and Yadkin. These counties were added to the list on October 15, 2024, after FEMA declared them adversely affected by Hurricane Helene. The Department also noted that Nash County, which was previously treated as a disaster county under North Carolina law, is now included in the major disaster declaration.

North Carolina List of Counties Eligible for Hurricane Helene Interest Relief Expanded

The North Carolina Department of Revenue issued an important notice to announce that additional counties have been added to the list of counties eligible for Hurricane Helene interest relief. As previously reported, (see Payroll Update, 10/14/2024), interest relief is provided to taxpayers who reside or are located in any county declared a major disaster by President Biden under the federal Stafford Act (P.L. 93-288) as a result of Hurricane Helene and Nash County (collectively, “Disaster Counties”) and who file and pay specific types of tax. On October 15, 2024, FEMA added the following 12 counties to the list of North Carolina counties adversely affected by Hurricane Helene: Cabarrus; Cherokee; Forsyth; Graham; Iredell; Lee; Nash; Rowan; Stanly; Surry; Union; and Yadkin.
