The Kansas Department of Revenue has issued a memo clarifying guidance on renewable energy resources and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

The memo summarizes the renewable energy exemption under Kan. Stat. Ann. § 79-201(Eleventh), how to apply for renewable energy exemptions, the personal property commercial and industrial machinery and equipment (CIME) exemption under Kan. Stat. Ann. § 79-223, and the valuation and assessment of renewable energy projects.

The Department has also issued an updated local transient guest tax rate table for the fourth quarter of 2024. Effective October 1, 2024, the new table reflects no changes from the previous quarter.

The Kansas Department of Revenue has issued a memo to clarify previous communications on renewable energy resources and battery energy storage systems (BESS) and the treatment of property used predominantly to produce and generate electricity utilizing renewable energy resources or technologies.
